In addition to a charming trophy and commemorative t-shirts, the winners of this year's challenge will have their project published in The University of Washington's Journal of Architecture and Urban Planning, Column 5. Their work will also be displayed in a local gallery. Check back for further developments.


Steve Badanes

Steve Badanes

Co-founder and principal of the Jersey Devil design/build firm, Steve's 30 years of experience includes international projects ranging from the U.S. and Mexico, India, Cuba and Europe. Widely published, and featured in Devil's Workshop (published by Princeton Architectural Press), he is currently the Howard S. Wright Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington and a visiting professor at several architecture schools. In summer he teaches at the Yestermorrow Design-build school in Vermont.


Paula Patterson

Paula Anne Patterson

Paula has been a lecturer at in the Architecture Department at the University of Washington since 2004.  She currently teaches courses on materials and furniture design. She is a frequent contributor to Column 5 and her work has been shown in Salt Lake City, Boise, Seattle and London.
